To become a true business partner, you need to have the ability to provide value beyond knowledge.  Providing knowledge about your particular area of expertise is not enough when working consultatively.  To truly partner with your client, requires that you not only provide “technical” knowledge but also display your ability to:
  • Understand your client’s business issues and objectives
  • Identify and address your client’s concerns and the problems they face
  • Address the needs of internal and external clients

Working consultatively enables you to make the invisible aspects of your job visible to your clients.  You can do this by:   

  • Sharing information and insights learned from experience
  • Drawing on your life’s learnings and passions
  • Providing messages from the heart and head
  • Connecting with what is important to your client

Take some time this month to think about an important client or project and what you can do to make the above aspects visible to your client.
