PeopleSoft is a leading provider of eBusiness application software

Business Need
PeopleSoft recognized that in order to differentiate themselves from their competitors, they needed to provide outstanding consulting services to their clients. Their Professional Services Organization needed consultants that could support their clients throughout the entire implementation life cycle.


Goal
  • Establish the use of a common language, tools and consulting methodologies.
  • Clarify how to manage a client, the project and PeopleSoft's interests simultaneously.
  • Lower the need for consultants to escalate situations to management, director and vice president ranks.
  • Implement the use of a "Consultative Process" with regard to the stages of successful implementation, client situation, management, and critical communication activities (work agreement, identifying key issues, etc).
  • Create more efficient and effective use of internal and external teams by giving them communication processes and tools.


Solution
PeopleSoft has worked with Advance Consulting over the past three years to develop a variety of initiatives aimed at teaching their consultants the skills and methods needed to become better business consultants and partners. Specifically, Advance Consulting has worked with PeopleSoft to:
  • Customize workshop to incorporate PeopleSoft's methodology and client situations. These sessions have been successfully implemented over the past three years to both regional and international groups of Professional Services managers and consultants.
  • Expose over 1,000 new hires per year to PeopleSoft's consulting methodologies by incorporating a half-day preview session of workshop into PeopleSoft University's new hire orientation bootcamp.
  • Incorporate Advance Consulting's Negotiation Skills and Managing Client Interactions into their Professional Services Conference. Over 500 managers participated in these sessions.
  • Create a training event for their recent Professional Services Conference. We worked closely with PeopleSoft to tie their objectives for the conference with their long-term professional development strategy. Advance Consulting worked with Eagle's Flight to implement and present Rattlesnake Canyon to over 2,000 consultants. Manager sessions were also presented on Conflict Strategies and Consultative Coaching.
  • Implement a management curriculum as well as and business simulation workshops.

Results
  • Armed with the critical consulting skills training plus their technical expertise, PeopleSoft consultants can better implement with speed and efficiency and work as business partners with their clients.
  • As a result of the Bootcamp, PeopleSoft is able to assimilate new hires faster into the organization. The workshop has helped create a common language and a common approach.
  • Participants of workshop report that they are more prepared for client interactions as a result of the training.
  • Use of Expertise Statements has helped to communicate the confidence and competence of PSG consultants to their clients.
